Question: What methods for approaching social change also aid in stopping climate change?
Possible Solutions: civil disobedience– doing something uncomfortable with others doing the same thing can cause unity; morality– people feel as though there is a moral obligation to work together against climate change; protests– people come together in one place for one belief; weak ties/sense of community or belonging– similar to morality, people feel obligated to help because other people in their community are also helping; social media– allows for a wider audience, the ability to share ideas/find people with similar ideas, learn more about others, and make connections with people you normally wouldn’t
Position: McKibben, Duhigg, and Moore all offer different ways to approach climate change, not one of which is more right than the other. The best way to achieve any kind of progress in stopping climate change is to take strategic elements from each expert and use them together. This will appeal to more people because you are giving more than one solution to the problem which gives them options and makes the issue not so big and scary
Thesis: In order to achieve widespread social change and potentially end climate change, we must take strategies for approaching this issue from McKibben, Duhigg, and Moore and use them in combination.
