Active, Critical Reading

Below I have inserted images of my annotations from some of the readings we have done so far in class from beginning to end:

Annotations from “How Telling Our Silenced Stories Can Change the World” by Anne Hallward

Annotations from “Writing Down the Bones” by Natalie Goldberg

Annotations fromĀ Do The Math featuring Bill McKibben

Annotations from “From Civil Rights to Megachurches” by Charles Duhigg

At the start of this course, my annotations were few and far between. They were more like highlighting and underlining rather than annotations. Now, I make connections within the writing between the authors different points of view and from the writing to the rest of the world. I also ask questions some of which I’m either curious about or am interested in debating or discussing in class. Most of the questions I ask myself tend to lead to important topics of discussion in my essays, such as on page 87 of “From Civil Rights to Megachurches” when I question how weak ties spread information. This sets up an explanation of Duhigg’s ideas and three-step process.
